ARLA32 System Filter

The ARLA32 filter purifies the urea-water solution that makes up the ARLA32 additive, which is responsible for reducing air pollution.

ARLA32, or Liquid Nitrogen Oxide Reducing Agent, also known as urea, is responsible for transforming the gases emitted by the exhaust system into nitrogen particles and water vapor, complying with EURO 5 pollutant emission standards and helping to control air pollution.

ARLA32 is an additive used in Selective Catalytic Reduction technology, which consists of mixing the ARLA 32 additive (urea filter) into the exhaust gas, transforming the polluting exhaust gas into nitrogen and water.

Developed to purify the urea-water solution, the ARLA32 Filter protects against wear and possible breakage, as the urea and water present are aggressive substances, corroding parts and allowing the fluid to leak.

When should the ARLA32 filter be changed?

Follow the recommendations in the vehicle manufacturer’s manual. Wega recommends changing the filter every 80,000 km to 100,000 km, carrying out periodic revisions, as the quality of the ARLA32 can affect the filter’s service life.

It is not uncommon for ARLA32 to be contaminated with diesel oil, due to incorrectly filling the ARLA32 tank with diesel. In such cases, it is extremely important to change the ARLA32 filter.

What can happen if the ARLA32 filter is not changed?

Failure to replace the filter can lead to problems with the system’s ducts becoming clogged, preventing the gases generated by combustion and ARLA32 from being read, causing faults in electronic management and damage to the system.

To assess whether ARLA32 is free of impurities, take a few drops from the ARLA32 tank and apply them to an oil test paper (90760). If the paper does not discolor, the ARLA32 is fine. If, however, the paper discolors, this shows the presence of contaminants such as oil, in which case the entire ARLA32 and the ARLA32 Filter must be replaced.

The area used to change the filter must be clean and free of any oil, grease or other impurities. The hands of the professional carrying out the service must be clean to avoid contamination. Always use the new components that come with the filter. Tampering with the system so as not to use ARLA 32 is a crime, as it increases pollution levels in the environment.
