The sediment filter, also called a water separator, has the function of filtering and separating the water particles present in diesel oil. They can be found in shielded versions with a drain, with a fixed acrylic cup and without a fixed cup.

When should the Sediment Filter be changed?

Follow the recommendations in the vehicle manufacturer’s manual. Due to variations in diesel quality at different service stations, you need to monitor performance (consumption/power loss) and change it when necessary.

What can happen if the sediment filter is not changed?

The saturated filter does not separate the water from the diesel, damages (clogs) the fuel filter, causing problems for the vehicle’s injection and fueling system, causing loss of power and compromising the fuel pump and common rail system.

When assembling, lubricate the gasket with lubricating oil and top up the filter level with clean diesel oil to prevent air from entering the system. For filters with a removable bowl, lubricate the sealing ring on the bowl. Don’t forget to drain the filter reservoir every two days or, if necessary, every day.
